Japan Radiation Crisis: Vessels & Containers

The radiation crisis at Japan’s Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant affects air and ocean containers transportation. Over the past week, two vessels were detected with abnormally high radiation.

MOL Presence, the Mitsui O.S.K. Lines' (MOL) vessel, arrived Xiamen, China on March 21, but inspectors detect “abnormal” amounts of radiation on the deck and surface of containers, prompting the Chinese authority to ask the vessel to stay away from port. On March 25, it was rejected to berth and headed back to Kobe, Japan.

Another vessel under Panama flag was also found with high radiation when berthing at port of Vanino, Russia. Russia officials believed the vessel passed through the highly radiated waters near Fukushima.

We will provide information on ports shipping lines berthing at Japan and logistics effects on goods and transportation in the next few blogs.

Please tune back for more updated information!
