C-TPAT Enrollment Services for U.S. Importers

U.S. Importers throughout the country are rushing to enroll in the U.S. Customs new security initiative, C-TPAT (Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism). This Program is a joint government-business initiative designed to build cooperative relationships that strengthen overall supply chain and border security. The government has long recognized that Customs can provide the highest level of security only through close cooperation with the ultimat owners of the supply chain - importers, carriers, brokers, warehouse operators and manufacturers. Through this initiative, Customs is asking businesses to ensure the integrity of their security practices and communicate their security guidelines to their business partners throughout the supply chain. The Program is presently open to Importers, Carriers (air, sea, and rail), Intermediaries and Customs Brokers.

While C-TPAT is a voluntary program, U.S. Customs is committed to linking C-TPAT membership to its quick cargo release, new automation and ISA programs. In addition, importers participating in the program are now requiring that all members in their supply chain, including brokers, carriers and warehouse operators demonstrate their commitment to security by becoming C-TPAT participants. Companies are just starting to require C-TPAT membership before they will do business or continue to do business withe supply chain service providers.
