nShift Announces AI-powered Invoice Audit to Recover Hidden Freight Overcharges
This is a guest news release submitted to Universal Cargo by James Ellerington of Fourteen Forty Communications.
Note from the editor: We don’t ordinarily publish releases announcing companies’ products or services. However, the below release does point out a soft spot for international shippers’ businesses relating to tariffs, which are a main topic in Universal Cargo’s blog. Shippers should be aware of the potential of costs of freight billing discrepancies, which this release highlights beyond the service offering from nShift, causing us to feel it was worthwhile to share with our readers. Universal Cargo was not paid to post this release, and sharing it does not mean we endorse nShift, its services, or Fourteen Forty.

nShift, the global leader in delivery and experience management, has announced nShift Audit, an AI-powered invoice audit and recovery product. It will identify freight billing discrepancies that cause multi-carrier businesses pay to more than they should in shipping charges. These discrepancies often remain hidden, even when they are checked.
Research among shippers, shows that one in five freight invoices are inaccurate. Few businesses have the time or resources to check every invoice in detail. Three quarters check them by hand, or not at all. This means a lot can be missed. This can easily mean freight billing discrepancies in the range of 3-7% of total freight spend. For businesses which do a lot of shipping, the benchmark shows it could amount to millions.
It is too easy for accidental discrepancies to occur. A rate can be correct, and the charge can still be wrong. A canceled shipment may still be billed, the invoiced weight may differ from the shipment record, or a surcharge may appear for a service that was never used.
With nShift Audit, the same platform used to create and manage the shipment now checks the invoice against the agreed tariff and shipment record alongside. nShift Audit checks the price against the tariff, then verifies the charge against the shipment record.
Businesses not yet shipping through nShift can connect their shipment data through the platform’s API. Businesses already shipping through nShift can start without needing an integration as the shipment data needed for the audit is already there.
nShift Audit automatically checks invoices against the tariff and shipment record to identify duplicate billing, service level mismatches, billed weight, volume, price and surcharge errors. It can do this across a variety of invoice formats (PDF, CSV, Excel, XML and EDI) without mapping each format.
The first invoice in a new carrier format is checked manually. Once approved, later invoices in the same format can be processed automatically. The audit then shows businesses what went wrong, how much it cost and provides the evidence needed to challenge the charge.
Jurgen Leijdekker, CEO at nShift, said: “For nearly three decades, nShift has enabled businesses to execute and manage delivery across carriers, markets and increasingly complex shipping operations. The resulting depth of delivery data can now create more value for our customers by helping them protect the economics of shipping. nShift Audit turns existing shipment data into a new source of financial control, one that businesses switch on themselves.”
nShift Audit follows the company’s recent launches such as AI-ready agentic commerce infrastructure, in-product AI assistance, AI-native carrier integration and AI-powered delivery predictions. Across the platform, AI now supports carrier connection and delivery prediction through to final invoice checking.
Johan Hellman, Chief Product Officer at nShift, added: “Carrier invoices arrive in many different formats. nShift Audit uses AI to structure that variable input, then applies fixed checks against the tariff and shipment record without requiring a new mapping project for every format. That keeps the audit logic consistent even when the invoice format changes.”
nShift Audit is designed for logistics, supply chain and finance teams managing significant freight spend across multiple carriers, where even small billing discrepancies can add up to meaningful recoveries. Learn more at nshift.com/products/audit.
